GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Established in May 2005, the Retail Skills Network Gloucestershire brings together employers, employees and training organisations to promote skills within the retail industry. The overall aim is to enhance the skills base of retail businesses in Gloucestershire in order to increase business and economic competitiveness.
The Retail Skills Network is funded by the Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund and is led by a steering group of employers, local town centre managers and key support agencies from across Gloucestershire. Key partners include Cheltenham Business Partnership, Gloucester Chamber of Commerce, Tewkesbury Borough Council and the Forest of Dean District Council.
The retail industry is a key economic sector in Gloucestershire and offers opportunities for full time and part time employment, long-term career progression as well as self-employment. Retail employees in the region account for 10% of the working population, and with major redevelopment taking place at key sites within the county there will be significant growth in retail businesses and job opportunities.
